Carmen : Documentary : Timeline
03/25/09 PRESS RELEASE
World premiere of first time filmmaker Larry’s films Ana & Arthur and Carmen
TORONTO, March 25, 2009 - The 16th Annual Hot Docs Film Festival announced their 2009 documentary line up at a press conference on Tuesday, including 2 films by Larry Young, Ana & Arthur and Carmen.

“Aside from being a beautiful film, what was so remarkable is the fact that the film ended with a single credit ‘Larry Young’ and his phone number. We thought to ourselves who is this man, where did he come from and why have we never heard of him?” said Gisele Gordon, Assistant Programmer of the Canadian Spectrum program for Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival about Ana & Arthur.

Produced, directed, photographed, and edited by 65 year old first time film maker Larry Young, Ana & Arthur captures with a genuinely compassionate lens the unique marriage of Ana and Arthur, their stunningly beautiful therapeutic retreat and the raw emotions of loss and grief when their marriage and farm is threatened by Arthur's love for another woman.

Carmen, a 7 minute short, is a brief but extraordinarily effective portrait of a woman's profound devotion to her husband. Larry Young captures the essence of this remarkable woman and her heroic adherence to her marriage vows in simple, classic documentary style. His eloquent film challenges all our notions of “happily ever after.”
